Thwarted by the letter N and by the U.S. government

To continue my thwarted by series:
  • Today I was thwarted by the N on the keyboard in an instructional session.  Unfortunately there is an N in my University Identification, so I had a bit of difficulty getting where I needed to go in the demonstration.  The N was sticky!
  • This afternoon, I did a session entitled Tips and Tricks for Library Researchers.  My second tip was to use the Library of Congress classification codes to locate materials.  Unfortunately their web site is down: http://www.loc.gov/home2/shutdown-message.html.  Later I tried to do a search on PubMed, which was also affected by this shutdown, but to a lesser extent.

Thwarted by...

Typically librarians are thwarted by technology, a vendor's disruption of service, or any number of other problems relating to live demonstrations of library resources.  Well today, I was thwarted by a fly.  Seriously, the fly would not leave me alone.  It kept circling me throughout my presentation.  I guess the lesson learned here is never wear bright colours to a presentation.  At least I made reference to the fly so that the students didn't think I was flailing about for no reason!
