note to self

Upon attending a webinar yesterday, I learned a valuable lesson: if you are the presenter, always turn off all applications on your computer that have an alert or a preview that could appear during your instructional session.

During the webinar, participants were able to view multiple new mail desktop alerts because the presenter left her Microsoft Outlook application open in the background.  Not only did it distract her during the presentation, but it also displayed to the audience potentially confidential information.

When I worked for ProQuest, I also used WebEx to host my training sessions.  I was under the impression that my alerts would not be visible to my audience - I guess I was wrong!
