the use of metaphor

I attended a workshop on treaties this past week.  The presenter used the most successful metaphor that I have witnessed in a classroom setting.  He combined his metaphor with an active learning activity, which I obviously love so the statement was very powerful for me.

The presenter asked the participants to find a clean patch of floor and have a seat.  He asked to look left and right and comment on what we saw.  He then asked us to sit down on our chairs and repeat.  And finally to stand up and again comment on what we saw.  He was illustrating that we all have different perspectives.  I thought that was brillant especially in the context of what we were there to learn!
