Hey did you know that your library was awesome??

A library system (that shall not be named) charges an annual fee for a library card.  This fee has been a barrier for my sister for years.  She finally relented after years of being pestered by her librarian sister.  Besides the obvious fact that libraries are awesome, my strategy to convert her was that she would save money over the long run from borrowing materials such as DVDs and books for her kids - even eBooks!

We had an opportunity to visit a library in her neighbourhood recently and I was immediately astonished by the "awesomeness" of the branch.  The book return was cool; there were comfy chairs, new books, a fireplace and a TV in an adult reading area; the front desk was modular, movable and inviting; the children's section was delightful!  Not to mention, they offered an Arts + Culture Pass to local events!!!  And most important, they subscribe to Tumblebooks - one of my very favourite places for animated children's stories.

Did she get her money's worth?  Definitely - we borrowed The Iron Lady, a movie for the kids and about 20 books on this visit.  This is the second time that she has taken her kids to the library.

My question: what happens when you don't have an annoying librarian for a sister?  Do you discover how awesome your library is?
